The Brown County Sheriff’s Office arrested David Mairena-Garcia, a Nicaraguan national, and booked him into the county jail on multiple felony charges, including two counts of attempted first-degree intentional homicide.
According to FOX11, Green Bay Police arrested Mairena-Garcia following the April 20 incident on Edgewood Drive. The 29-year-old Nicaraguan national allegedly used a key to enter his ex-girlfriend’s home and attacked her and another man using a machete. Both victims were hospitalized with serious injuries. The suspect was booked into the Brown County Jail, where ICE placed a federal immigration detainer on him. Mairena-Garcia faces six counts in total and told police he lost control after seeing the victims together.
According to data compiled by Crime Grade, Brown County recorded a violent crime rate of about 2.7 per 1,000 residents. Assault cases represent a significant portion of violent crimes reported in the county and the Green Bay area. Law enforcement agencies in the region respond to incidents involving weapons and domestic situations to protect residents.
ICE places thousands of detainers each year on noncitizens held in local jails, according to the agency. Many of those individuals have prior convictions or pending charges for violent offenses such as homicide or assault. Federal data also shows that some noncitizens subject to removal have reentered the country multiple times.
The Brown County Sheriff’s Office is the primary law enforcement agency for Brown County, Wisconsin. It operates the county jail and provides patrol, criminal investigations, court security, and other public safety services. Its jurisdiction covers Green Bay and surrounding communities in northeast Wisconsin, according to the sheriff’s office.
