Congressman Tony Wied (R-WI) has been appointed Chairman of the Subcommittee on Contracting and Infrastructure, according to an April 17 announcement from the House Committee on Small Business.
The appointment places Wied in a key role overseeing federal procurement and small business participation in government contracts. The subcommittee is responsible for reviewing programs that aim to increase opportunities for small businesses to contribute goods and services to the federal government, as well as examining how these businesses can help rebuild and modernize national infrastructure.
“I am extremely proud to have been selected to serve as the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Contracting and Infrastructure,” said Congressman Wied. “As a former small business owner, I know firsthand the challenges that these businesses face, and I look forward to working closely with them to ensure we increase their participation and provide them with opportunities to share their expertise with our federal government.”
House Small Business Committee Chairman Roger Williams (R-TX) also commented on Wied’s appointment. “I’d like to congratulate Rep. Tony Wied on his selection as House Committee on Small Business Chairman of the Contracting and Infrastructure Subcommittee,” said Williams. “Tony brings firsthand experience as a small-business owner, having built and grown companies across Northeast Wisconsin from the ground up. I look forward to working with him to advance President Trump’s America First Agenda and deliver real results for Main Street.”
Wied was elected after defeating Kristin Lyerly in the 2024 general election by securing 57.3% of votes compared to Lyerly’s 42.6%, according to official results.
The new leadership could impact how small businesses engage with federal infrastructure projects going forward.
