The city of Green Bay has announced the resignation of District 8 Alder Christopher Wery, effective May 16, 2025. This information was confirmed by City Clerk Celestine Jeffreys.

According to a press release, the Green Bay Common Council will appoint an interim alder to complete Wery’s term, which ends on April 21, 2026. Residents of District 8 from wards 28, 29, 30, 31, and 32 are eligible to apply by submitting nomination papers with between 20 and 40 valid signatures. Applicants may be required to present their candidacy to the council. The deadline for applications is June 6, 2025, at 11:30 a.m.

The Common Council will select the interim alder by majority vote on June 10, 2025. Until then, residents can contact Community Liaison Kerry Yang at the provided phone number or use the city’s online form for any city-related concerns. Wery served as Green Bay’s District 8 alder from 2002 to 2012 and again from 2013 until his resignation in 2025. He previously held positions as council president and vice president and led fundraising efforts for local community projects such as rebuilding Colburn and Fisk pools. In recognition of his community service efforts, he received the City Builder Award in 2006. Wery is also known for his volunteer work as a Cubmaster and soccer referee.
