The job just got a lot easier for hikers making a visit to the Door County nature preserve.

Fox11Online.com reports two bridges in Sturgeon Bay were recently dedicated, paving the way for the official opening of the North Bridge at Crossroads at Big Creek, with Bill Parsons and his wife, Betty, being some of the first to officially cross.

“Oh, I think this is wonderful,” said Bill Parsons. “What an idyllic spot this is. And a perfect place for a bridge. One feels like you’re out in nature, but it’s stable and protected.”

The nearby Cedar Crossing is also said to ready, with both reported to have been completed back in March.

“We have five bridges that cross the Big Creek,” said Laurel Hauser, Executive Director of Crossroads at Big Creek. “We have a 3,000-foot stretch of Big Creek, that crosses our 200-acre nature preserve, and we had three bridges that had just been put in many, many years ago, small bridges, done by volunteers. They served the purpose for the time that they were here.”

Going forward, Sturgeon Bay Mayor David Ward, who recently presented Crossroads with a check for $100,000 from the non-profit foundation called the 1923 Fund to help cover the $500,000 initiative, is excited about the prospect of what he sees.

“It is a big deal,” he added. “And Crossroads is a big deal for Sturgeon Bay. Crossroads is really getting a lot of community support, and it runs all the way form the mayor, and the city council, to everybody in the city. So that’s a great thing to see.”
