A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the City of Algoma regarding new voter registrations on November 7, 2024. The request, submitted by Green Bay Reporter, a media organization committed to comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, specifically asked for a list of voters who registered on Election Day.

As part of our commitment to transparency and public accountability, we at Green Bay Reporter have invoked the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq., in this request. We believe that access to such public records is crucial in fulfilling our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.

In our capacity as a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we requested these records preferably in an electronic format. We also made a case for a fee waiver as a media professional given our role in disseminating information.

The City of Algoma has yet to respond to this request. We remain committed to bringing you up-to-date information about local government affairs and will continue our efforts towards ensuring transparency and accountability in all public institutions.
