A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Town Of Abrams in Wisconsin regarding new voter registration records on November 7, 2024.
We at Green Bay Reporter, a media organization committed to comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, requested access to a list of new voters who registered on November 5, 2024. The request was made under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq., and we have expressed preference for the records in electronic format.
As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.
We await a response from the Town Of Abrams regarding this request and will continue to work towards promoting transparency and accountability in local government affairs.
