A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Town Of Belle Plaine in Wisconsin on November 7, 2024. The request was made by us at Green Bay Reporter, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.

The specific records requested under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq., were for a list of new voters who registered to vote on November 5, 2024. We sought these records preferably in an electronic format.

As members of the media, we are involved in gathering and reporting news to the public. Access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.

We believe that given our role in disseminating information, we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals. This request is part of our ongoing commitment to keep our readers informed about important civic matters such as voter registration and participation in elections.

We continue to await a response from the Town Of Belle Plaine regarding this FOIA request.
