A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Town of Franklin regarding new voter registrations on November 7, 2024.

The request, made by us at Green Bay Reporter, sought a list of new voters who registered on Election Day, November 5, 2024. As an organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we believe that access to such public records is crucial in fulfilling our professional responsibilities.

We aim to hold public institutions accountable and provide transparency to the public through our reporting. In this light, we requested these records under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq., preferably in electronic format.

As members of the media involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we asserted our eligibility for a fee waiver as media professionals. This is part of our ongoing efforts to ensure that important information about local government activities remains accessible and transparent to all citizens.

The Town of Franklin has yet to respond to this request. We will continue to follow up on this matter and update our readers with any developments.
