Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-WI) today voted for the Secure the Border Act of 2023, a bill that would secure the southern border, provide more resources to border patrol agents, and help stop the flow of illicit drugs like fentanyl into the country.

In a video after the vote, Rep. Gallagher said, “Today we passed a border security bill that would, among other things, reinitiate construction of the border wall, provide more resources to border patrol agents, and fix the Title 42 issue…I encourage the Biden administration to, rather than play the blame game, lean in, get the Senate to pass this bill, and fix this problem legislatively so we can tackle the chaos at the southern border before more people get hurt and more lethal drugs flow into the country.”

The bill would:

  • Force the Biden Administration to restart construction of the border wall
  • Deploy technology to the Southern and Northern border
  • Increase the number of Border Patrol agents and provide bonus pay
  • Require transparency regarding illegal crossings from the Department of Homeland Security
  • Strengthen current law to protect unaccompanied children from human trafficking
  • End catch and release
  • End abuse of executive immigration authority
  • Strengthen and streamline the asylum process
