Green Bay Police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash that took the life of a 17-year-old boy who was a backseat passenger in one of the vehicles late last month.

Fox11Online.com reports the deadly, multi-vehicle crash took place just before 8 p.m. on the night of Oct. 29, near the intersection of W Mason and Oneida streets and involved at least three vehicles, with speed appearing to be a factor.

By the time police arrived, WBAY.com reports one of the vehicles had fled the scene. Surveillance video from a nearby gas station captures part of the crash, with one speeding car crashing into another and later a third vehicle. In the aftermath, police shut down the intersection for more than 12 hours conducting their investigation.

“Any time there is an accident like that where, like you said, a lot of businesses will have video so we’ll be tracking that down throughout the day and we’ll be investigating further, and if some of the video does have the accident there or what led up to it that will be very important to our investigation,” Green Bay Police Lt. Matt Vanegeren told WBAY.com.

Authorities are also now asking anyone with information about the crash or the vehicle that fled the scene to contact Green Bay police at (920) 448-3200 and refer to case number 22-259784. Anonymous tips may be left with Crime Stoppers by phone at (920) 432-7867.

While police have not released the name of the victim, an online fundraiser created by his sister Mercedez Brown identified the teen as Cruz and GoFundMe has confirmed the fundraiser as legitimate. According to Brown, the family is from Florida and was in Wisconsin visiting friends.
