The Howard-Suamico School District has announced the appointment of Mr. Jo Wiebel as the new principal of Bay Port High School, effective July 1, 2025. This decision follows the retirement of Mr. Mike Frieder, who will step down after 30 years in the role. The announcement was made via a press release on January 3, 2025.

According to the press release, Mr. Wiebel has been part of the Howard-Suamico School District since 2018 and will officially take over as principal starting July. To ensure a seamless transition, both Wiebel and Frieder will collaborate closely throughout the remainder of the 2024-25 school year.

“Bay Port has a history of excellence. I am excited to continue working with the dedicated staff to provide the best possible educational opportunities for our students and families,” said Wiebel. He added that he is eager to build upon existing traditions while exploring growth opportunities for the school community.

Wiebel brings over 14 years of experience as an administrator, teacher, and coach in the Green Bay Area Public School District and has resided in Suamico for 16 years.

Superintendent Mark Smith said that “Mr. Wiebel has made a noteworthy positive impact for seven years as Bay Port associate principal,” adding that they are excited to maintain Bay Port’s tradition of excellence. “We are grateful to have such a talented internal leader ready to serve during this critical transition as we continue working with students and families to prepare them for a successful and meaningful future,” said Smith.

The Howard-Suamico School District (HSSD), established in 1961, encompasses an area of 58 square miles in Howard and Suamico, Wisconsin, near Green Bay. The district serves approximately 5,550 students across eight schools: five elementary schools, one intermediate school, one middle school, and one high school. Additionally, it includes several community-based pre-kindergarten sites. According to its website, HSSD’s mission is to collaborate with families and the community to equip students with skills and knowledge necessary for success.
