Green Bay Area Public School District has announced the completion of 35 quilts by Jackson Elementary School for the 2024–25 school year. The achievement was celebrated with an event involving students, staff, and community volunteers on April 2, 2025.
According to a press release, a group of 33 students from grades 3-5 at Jackson Elementary participated in a quilting project aimed at enhancing their leadership skills, sense of belonging, self-confidence, academic achievement, and school engagement. This marks the third collaboration between Jackson Elementary and the Calvary Quilters from Calvary Lutheran Church. The quilters have been teaching students quilting techniques as part of this community-focused initiative.
During a special celebration, the Calvary Quilters presented Jackson Elementary with a custom quilt to be displayed at the school. In total, 35 quilts were made and will be donated to families in need during the next school year. Of these quilts, 22 were completed during the 2023-24 school year and have already been donated to families.
Jackson Elementary School serves approximately 380 students in grades 3K through 5. According to Jackson Elementary School, families of younger students use door #11 on Ninth Street for drop-off and pick-up, while K–5 families use the blacktop near Langlade Avenue. The school provides free breakfast and lunch to all students under the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) and offers a no-questions-asked food pantry called the Hunger Heroes Jaguar Den. Principal Gina Cornu-Zacharias leads the school.
