Oconto County announced on Mar. 26 the placement of a supervised release under Wisconsin State Statute 980, according to a press release that also included an order, frequently asked questions, and references to state statute documents.
The announcement addresses the procedures for managing individuals released under supervision as required by state law. The information is intended to inform the public about statutory requirements and local actions related to such placements.
In addition to this announcement, recent data show that Oconto Falls High School had the highest enrollment in Oconto County for the 2023-24 school year with 534 students, followed by Sunnyside Elementary School with 501 students and Oconto Falls Elementary School with 498 students, according to the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. The county’s student population during this period was predominantly white at 89.4 percent (4,056 out of 4,537), which was similar to the previous year’s figure of 89.9 percent (4,059), as reported by the department.
Smaller ethnic groups together made up about one-tenth of all students in Oconto County schools—10.6 percent or roughly 481 students—each group representing less than five percent individually according to state data. Hispanic students were identified as the second most represented ethnic group at 4.8 percent for the same school year according to DPI, while multiracial students comprised approximately 3.9 percent of enrolled students. Pacific Islander students accounted for just a small fraction—0.1 percent—making them the least represented ethnic group in county schools during this time frame as reported by DPI.
These figures provide context regarding community demographics relevant when considering supervised releases and other county policies governed by state statutes.
