Rep. Tony Wied, a member of the U.S. House of Representatives who won his seat in 2024 by defeating Kristin Lyerly, has used social media to comment on the ongoing government shutdown and national political developments.

On October 8, 2025, Wied criticized Democratic lawmakers for their handling of the federal government shutdown. In a post, he stated, “It’s day 8 of the Democrats’ shutdown and they have voted SIX times to keep the government closed. Farmers, federal workers, and small businesses are all taking a hit because Democrats refuse to put American citizens over illegal aliens.”

Later that same day, Wied posted about a media exchange involving former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. He wrote, “Nancy Pelosi: it’s not a clean CR. CNN: what’s not clean about it? Nancy Pelosi: https://t.co/n581uix85k https://t.co/AF3VuSdvy1” on October 8, 2025.

On October 9, 2025, Wied commented on former President Donald Trump’s foreign policy record, stating, “President Trump told the American people he would lead the world with peace through strength and that is exactly what he is delivering. Promises made, promises kept.”

Wied assumed office after winning the 2024 general election against Kristin Lyerly by securing 57.3% of the vote. His recent social media posts reflect ongoing partisan debates in Congress regarding the federal budget and broader national leadership issues.
