Rep. Tony Wied, a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, announced on July 17, 2025, that he has introduced new legislation aimed at expanding gun rights. In a series of posts on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Wied detailed the purpose and support behind the bill.

In his initial statement, Wied wrote: “For too long, the government has infringed on our 2nd Amendment rights. Thats why today I introduced the FIRE Act to ensure that law-abiding gun owners can access magazines of any size, no matter where they are in the U.S. It’s time we take ‘shall not be infringed’ seriously.” (July 17, 2025).

Shortly after announcing the legislation, Wied acknowledged several colleagues who joined as original cosponsors: “Thank you to our original cosponsors: @RepTiffany @RepMikeCollins @RepDaveTaylor @RepSheriBiggs @RepRussFulcher” (July 17, 2025).

Wied also recognized endorsements from prominent advocacy groups in a subsequent post: @RepTiffany @RepMikeCollins @RepDaveTaylor @RepSheriBiggs @RepRussFulcher Thank you to @NRA, @NSSF, @GunOwners, @HunterandAngler for your endorsement of this legislation. (July 17, 2025).

The FIRE Act is positioned as a response to ongoing debates over firearm regulations in the United States. Recent years have seen legislative efforts at both state and federal levels to regulate magazine capacities and other aspects of gun ownership. Supporters argue such measures protect constitutional rights under the Second Amendment, while opponents cite concerns about public safety.

Wied’s acknowledgment of organizations like the NRA and NSSF highlights backing from major stakeholders in national firearms policy discussions.
