Green Bay Area Public School District announced that Wisconsin Secretary of State Sarah Godlewski visited Martin Elementary School on April 8 as part of her National Library Week tour of public school libraries. The announcement was made in a press release on April 9, 2025.
During her visit to Martin Elementary, Secretary Godlewski presented the Green Bay Area Public School District with a check exceeding $1.9 million from the Wisconsin Common School Fund, which helps schools buy library books and instructional materials. She concluded her visit by reading a book and leading an election-related activity with the students, according to a press release.
“Our librarians are able to find not only new, but high-quality books that are both relevant to the curriculum and to our student interests,” said GBAPS District Library Media Coordinator Raquel Rand. “We have libraries that have new STEM and makerspace tools to enhance our students’ learning… We have digital tools to help teach our students how to be safe online… All of this is possible because of the Common School fund. Our librarians are able to reach out and connect with our students on varying levels because they have the tools available to them.”
Martin Elementary School, located on the northeast side of Green Bay, serves approximately 375 students in grades K-5. The school emphasizes a family-focused environment with class sizes averaging 23 students per room. It offers a daily curriculum that includes 90-minute literacy and 75-minute math blocks, incorporating technology throughout the day. Martin’s staff includes teachers trained in art, music, physical education, and special education, with additional support for English Language Learners.
The Green Bay Area Public School District is located in Northeast Wisconsin and is the fourth largest public school district in the state, serving over 18,000 students across 39 schools. Founded in 1856, the district includes the communities of Allouez, Ledgeview, Bellevue, Green Bay, and Scott. It offers a variety of educational pathways to meet the needs of students.
