Organizations helping Afghan refugees are looking for donations and volunteers in Wisconsin.
Catholic organizations across Wisconsin are raising money, support and donations for refugees at Fort McCoy, according to Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Green Bay.
"A public call for help! Specific needs include child and adult diapers, wipes, masks, sweat pants, socks, rain ponchos and such," State Rep. Kristina Shelton said in a Twitter post.
The Brown County Refugee Task Force has said they can resettle up to 49 refugees. There are currently over 5,000 refugees at Fort McCoy, and it is estimated the fort will reach capacity in the next few weeks, according to the Green Bay Press Gazette.
Catholic ministries in La Crosse have asked specifically for clothing and hygiene items, a list of which can be found posted on their websites, according to the Green Bay Press Gazette.
"Nearly all Afghan families are arriving here with only the clothes on their backs, so the needs are immense," the Catholic Charities posted on its website. "Your generosity and support is greatly appreciated!"
Catholic Charities said that the donations can be dropped off at 3710 East Avenue South in La Crosse on Monday through Friday, 9 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m.
