Every year, at the state Capitol, people gather around in December to set their eyes upon the Christmas tree all decorated in the middle of the rotunda. Rep. Kristina Shelton has already tweeted about this year's Capitol Holiday Tree.
"Wisconsin students and teachers, we need your help to decorate the 2021 Capitol Holiday Tree! @GovEvers is pleased to announce 'Hometown for the Holidays' as the theme for the 2021 Capitol Holiday Tree! The Capitol Holiday Tree is filled with handmade ornaments from Wisconsin kids and families. You are invited to help contribute handmade ornaments showcasing what your hometown means to you. Students should craft four- to six-inch ornaments from non-breakable material with an attached 10-inch loop of ribbon. Send your ornaments to the address below by Nov. 19:
Emily Gorman
Wisconsin Department of Administration

Also please be sure to include the teacher's name and grade, school name and address so that we may acknowledge your contribution. For questions, contact the Facilities Management Information Center at (608) 266-1485. Thank you for helping us to celebrate and spread joy this #holidayseason2021 #WICapitolTree #HometownForTheHolidays," Shelton tweeted.
The tradition of decorating the tree with homemade ornaments sent in by students from across the state began in 1990. Past themes for the ornaments have included science, honoring Wisconsin's veterans and America's dairyland.
2020 was the first time in over 100 years that there was no Christmas tree in the state Capitol since the building was closed to the public.
In past years, the governor has hosted a tree-lighting ceremony.
