Following Gov. Tony Evers' decision to veto five pro-life bills and also promising to do the same for future bills, Rep. Jim Steineke took to Twitter to pledge that he will continue to fight for protecting the lives of the unborn.

"@GovEvers made his position clear today that a life not wanted is a life worth wasting. Sadly, I'm not surprised considering he's publicly stated before that defending our most vulnerable isn't a 'productive use of time.' In other circumstances, babies born alive during operations are given care: Why should this change during an abortion? It shouldn't. Despite our governor's radical ideologies, I will never stop fighting against this injustice to protect those who cannot protect themselves," Steineke tweeted.

Evers recently vetoed five abortion-related bills. One would have prohibited abortions based on the baby's sex or race. Another would have required doctors to tell women who are going to undergo medication-induced abortions that they are allowed to change their minds after the first dose and can continue the pregnancy. Another bill would have held doctors accountable for intentionally not providing life-saving medical care to or causing the death of a child who is born alive during an abortion, making the offense a felony.

Evers has vowed to strike down all pro-life bills that come to his desk. He has made the issue a cornerstone of his reelection campaign.

The vetoes come just days after the Supreme Court heard oral arguments in the Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health case, which challenges Roe v. Wade, the case that legalized abortion in 1973.
