Wisconsin Congressman Bryan Steil smiles at the thought most locals are probably now at peace.
“Two things all Wisconsinites can agree on: we must support our veterans, and Go Pack Go! I know the Racine community is grateful to the Packers, as they awarded a $250,000 grant to Racine’s Veterans Outreach of Wisconsin nonprofit,” Steil recently posted on Twitter.
Announced earlier this month, this year’s award continues a trend where the franchise has presented its Give Back Award to who it deems as the state’s most exceptional non-profit volunteers. The award is funded by the team and the National Football League Foundation.
According to the Journal Times, the goal of Veterans Outreach of Wisconsin is to assist homeless and at-risk veterans in reestablishing their normal lives by providing them access to resources that include food, clothing, shelter and other necessities. Going forward, the organization is focused on using the grant towards expanding its tiny house project, opening a veteran community center and creating a mobile food pantry for Wisconsin's veterans.
Through it all, Packers President/CEO Mark Murphy said the team relishes being in the game.
“The Packers are pleased to support Veterans Outreach of Wisconsin and their critical work providing much-needed assistance to those who have served our country,” he added. “We look forward to seeing how the grant will help this deserving organization grow as they work to ensure veterans in need have access to resources, community and a place they can call home.”
