Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-WI) announced that Emma Olson from Freedom High School was selected as this year's winner of the 2023 Congressional Art Competition for her piece of art titled, "Concession." Rep. Gallagher made the announcement during a reception with students, parents, and teachers at the Trout Museum of Art, which celebrated the creativity and talent of all this year's submissions.
"Congratulations to Emma for winning this year's Congressional Art Competition. Her piece of art, titled 'Concession,' demonstrated incredible attention to detail and will look great hanging in the U.S. Capitol," said Rep. Gallagher. "I'm always impressed by the artistic talent of Northeast Wisconsin students, and this year was no exception. I'm grateful to all the students, teachers, and parents who made this year's competition a success and look forward to seeing what Northeast Wisconsin students come up with next year."
This competition, held annually each spring, allows high school students to showcase their artistic talent across each congressional district. This year, 39 pieces of art from 10 different high schools were submitted.
The art will be on display at the Trout Museum of Art in Appleton through May 14, 2023, and can be viewed in an online gallery HERE.
Those who received awards include:
- First Place: Emma Olson, "Concession," Freedom High School
- Second Place: Emma Bastian, "Comfort," Brillion High School
- Third Place: Julia Fitt, "Determination," Bay Port High School
