The University of Wisconsin – Green Bay is set to host the second annual Social Justice Summit on June 5, 2024. The event, titled “A Look into Social Dominance and Resistance,” will be held in Phoenix Rooms A and B in the University Union from 9 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.
Mohammed I.T. Bey, Vice President Institutional Inclusion at Carroll University, has been announced as the keynote speaker for the summit. Bey's responsibilities at Carroll University include overseeing efforts related to equity and social justice. His address, “The House That We Built,” aims to delve deeper into the concepts of social dominance and social resistance.
“The UW-Green Bay Social Work Department’s vision is to be leaders in promoting social justice advocacy and equity for people across all identities,” stated Joan Groessl, Chair of UW-Green Bay Social Work Department. She added that through their field programs, they have community partners across the region who assist them in fulfilling this vision. The department has been conducting a social justice summit for two years now with an aim to further develop inclusivity in communities, witnessing growing attendance each year.
UW-Green Bay’s professional programs in social work strive to promote social justice in a diverse and evolving world by engaging in practices that elevate human and community well-being. The event agenda includes interactive breakout sessions where attendees can explore how to apply learned concepts to more aware practice:
