Butterflies and pollinators are the highlight of the summer season at Green Bay Botanical Garden once again! Starting this June, experience the spectacular sight of hundreds of live butterflies during Butterflies & Blooms: North American Edition – highlighting even more friendly pollinators including natives to the Midwest and new species from southern parts of North America.

The exhibit, which takes place daily from 10 am-5 pm through Monday, August 31, opens to Garden members on Monday, June 1 and will be available for the general public to enjoy starting on Monday, June 8. Due to limited capacity in the exhibit, and for the safety of visitors and staff in the butterfly house during this time, visitors will need to reserve their visit time in advance at GBBG.org/Butterflies.

Butterflies & Blooms will feature an 1,800-square-foot butterfly house filled with butterflies representing native fan favorites like the Monarch or the Tiger Swallowtail and up to 20 new species of butterflies (and a few moths) from the warmer climates of Florida, Texas and Mexico.

On any given day, 500 or more butterflies will be fluttering around the house – use the What’s in Flight board to know exactly what butterflies and moths you can expect to see. More than 300 new butterflies will arrive each week for a total of nearly 4,500 butterflies the entire summer.

This experience isn’t just for viewing: Beyond seeing the butterflies, visitors can enjoy a variety of drop-in activities mixing pollinators, plants and play in the butterfly house and throughout the Garden. Feed a butterfly with a stick dipped in a tasty treat, look under a microscope to see the beauty of a butterfly’s wing in detail or see the butterfly life cycle in action as we raise Zebra Longwing caterpillars and hatch new winged beauties from their chrysalises.

While in the Garden, transform into a scientist and uncover pollinator wonders at the Learning Lab just outside the butterfly house. Then, stroll through the native pollinator garden to discover plants that attract these and other ecologically-significant creatures. Get ideas on what plants you can add in your own outdoor space to attract and support pollinators, and feel free to talk to one of the Garden’s experts who can share their suggestions. Don’t forget to stop at the WPS Trellis Gift Shop on your way out for all your butterfly-themed needs like butterfly nets, insect habitats and more.

Butterflies & Blooms is included with daily admission to the Garden. To reserve your time in the butterfly house or for more information on the exhibit, visit GBBG.org/Butterflies.

Surround yourself with friendly pollinators and the plants they love in our first-ever Butterflies & Blooms exhibit! This immersive butterfly house features hundreds of live butterflies found in Wisconsin and gives visitors of all ages a chance to experience their beauty up close.

Learn about their important role in nature and how you can best support them in your own backyard!
