To say that GLC Minerals keeps it all in the family would be an understatement, as the five-generational manufacturing business celebrated its 150th year of operation in Green Bay on July 12.

Founded in 1871, GLC Minerals manufactures custom calcium carbonate, magnesium carbonate calcium sulfate and calcium products.

"Congratulations to @GlcMinerals in Green Bay for hitting a major milestone in their long and successful history," Sen. Eric Wimberger said in a July 13 tweet. "The fifth-generation local business hit an incredible 150 years! Great job GLC, we look forward to you continuing to be an important part of this community."

The products that GLC Minerals manufactures are leveraged in animal nutrition, pollution filters, industrial applications and soil amendments. Dairy, paper, plastics and glass are a few of the industries that GLC supplies to.

Throughout its history, GLC has been able to adapt and change with different market needs and utilize the ports of Green Bay, GLC reported.

The current owner and CEO of GLC, Wesley (Wes) Hurlbut Garner II, said that “each generation of leadership brought an entrepreneurial approach to the table, which was essential to our growth," WAGB reported.

GLC was rebranded in 2015 and WAGB reported that Garner also launched a rail-to-truck trans-loading company called GLC Integrated Services to serve the state’s dairy industry.

WAGB reported that GLC has 48 employees.

"From humble beginnings on the banks of the Fox River in Green Bay, Wisconsin, GLC Minerals has grown and evolved through innovating new products and opportunities while firmly rooted in an honest and dedicated, Midwestern work ethic," the GLC website states. "Strategically located at the gateway to the Great Lakes, we have grown from providing coal and local produce to Green Bay residents, to a national leader in agronomy, animal health and innovation within the industrial and environmental industries."
