Wisconsin State Rep. Lee Snodgrass (D-Appleton) is commending local businesses for hiring and employment practices that prioritize veterans.

According to a press release, the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development partnered with the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Wisconsin Department of Disabled American Veterans and the Veterans Chamber of Commerce to establish the Vets Ready Employer Initiative, which encourages employers to hire and retain veterans as well as connecting with veterans in their local communities.  Every year, companies that go above and beyond to support veterans receive Gold or Silver Level awards.

"Today @RepKristina and I joined @GovEvers, @WIWorkforce Secretary-designee Amy Pechacek and WDVA Secretary Mary Kolar to recognize local businesses who have earned 'Vet Ready' accolades," Snodgrass wrote in a Nov. 9 Twitter post. "The Vet Ready designation recognizes employers who go above and beyond hiring veterans in our communities. These businesses are elevated to veteran job seekers and community partners as an employer of choice for veterans."

Snodgrass went on to recognize local businesses including: 4imprint, Kimberly-Clark SALUTE, Precision Iceblast Corporation and Fox Cities Builders on their Silver designation and for their veteran-friendly hiring and employment practices.

The unemployment rate among veterans is 4.2%, according to data from the U.S. Department of Labor.

The Center Square reported that there are over 300,000 veterans in Wisconsin, making up 7.2% of the state’s population. Over 5% of those veterans live in poverty, and 359 of them are homeless.
