Green Bay East basketball is off to their best start in years amidst excellent performances from individual players and an optimistic mood in the community.
After 10 years of diminished expectations, the Green Bay East boy’s basketball team is on its way back to its past glory as the best program in Northeast Wisconsin.
Green Bay East player Ryan Sweeney celebrated the team's fast 7-0 and also his reaching 1,000 points in his career with a post to his Twitter account on Dec. 24, 2021. Since then the team has improved to 10-0, a clear improvement over last season's 6-11 finish. Members of the team are not surprised by their newfound winning ways this year, including Sweeney, who is a senior and currently having a career year and averaging more than 21 points per game.
It has been 53 years since Green Bay East previously won their league title, but with their fast start this season there is optimism amongst players, coaches and fans that it can be done this season. Since their victory in the '60s, the team made three more appearances in the state tournament in the 1990s but has not reappeared there in the 21st century, according to a report from Fox 11.
