Max Wagner, a third baseman with the Clemson Tigers, has achieved high stats and earned awards for his performance on the team this season, according to a Fox news report.

The recent success of the Wisconsin native and former Preble High baseball player comes after a difficult first year with the Tigers.

"It motivated me just to work harder because I knew I was capable of being in the lineup, being an everyday third baseman for Clemson and playing at a high level," Wagner told Fox. "Just really sticking to my game plan, my approach to hitting and applying it to a game-like situation."

This season he increased his batting average from.241 to .380, hit 26 home runs, and recorded 74 RBIs and 65 runs, according to We Are Greenbay.

Additionally, Wagner was selected as the ACC player of the week for two consecutive weeks at the start of May 2022, as well as one of thirteen national players of the week by Collegiate Baseball; he is the first Clemon player to earn consecutive ACC awards since 2012.

Wagner is currently one of 40 semi-finalists for the Dick Howser Trophy, which is considered the most distinguished award in college baseball.

He hopes to be among the five finalists with a shot at winning and taking home the award.

The top player will be selected by two rounds of national voting.
