As the inflation problem in Wisconsin and across the nation falls short of any relief, six in 10 Americans are blaming President Joe Biden.
Meanwhile, the U.S. leader's approval rating at this point in his presidency is the lowest of any modern-era president, recent FiveThirtyEight poll results showed.
Small business owners in Northeast Wisconsin have expressed the need to raise prices to keep up with increasing costs, a WLUK news report said this week. One toy-store owner said the price increases on products he's bought from suppliers are ranging from 10% to 15%. In recent weeks, the store has seen "a lot less foot traffic" than usual, likely because of inflationary pressures.
Price concerns are also present at downtown Green Bay's Mangiare.
Meat has been hit the hardest with price increases, the restaurant's executive chef told WLUK. He was paying $25 per pound for tenderloin approximately a year ago, but the price has almost doubled in recent months, reaching $40.
A national poll conducted by the Trafalgar Group asked voters to share what they believe is the leading contributor to rising inflation in the U.S. Overall, 59.9% of respondents said they blamed Biden's policies and spending, while only 31.6% blamed Russia's war with Ukraine. Among independent voters, 61.1% blamed Biden. The poll was held May 25-29 and surveyed likely general election voters. 1,091 respondents participated. The margin of error was less than 3%.
The Trafalgar Group is an Atlanta-based polling organization founded by Robert Cahaly, a senior strategist and pollster.
"President Joe Biden finally did it," Paul Bedard said in recent a Washington Examiner report. "The lackluster leader's approval rating has fallen below every president of the modern era at this stage of their term. Citing approval polling dating back to Harry S. Truman in 1945, FiveThirtyEight said that no president has been below, or even equal to, Biden's average of 40.9% on Day 490 of their presidency."
Biden's current approval rating of 40.9% on his 490th day in office makes him the least popular president at this point in office. His approval rating is 4 points lower than former President Donald Trump's at the same point in his presidency.
