Green Bay two-time defending MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers is hard at work pushing his new, rookie receiver corps to be all they can be.
“I like production over potential,” Rodgers recently told reporters. “We have some production. We have a lot of potential. So, we need to temper expectations and heighten the accountability. I think that’s the most important thing for those guys. There are guys who’ve done some things in the league and there are guys that haven’t and they’re going to get opportunities, so reasonable expectations for those guys and then high expectations and accountability for the entire room.”
With former top target Devante Adams now in Las Vegas, Rodgers knows things won’t be easy, even with veterans like Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb around to help steer the development of rookie wideouts Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs and Samori Toure.
Rodgers is committed to pushing all the right buttons to assure that the Packers get everything they need to keep the team’s offense churning along and the wins adding up.
Coach Matt LaFleur is also hoping the versatility of his offense, which includes using tight ends and running backs as consistent pass catchers, will make the NFL transition easier for his three rookies by allowing them to work from niche positions as they settle in.
The hope is that it will all come together by the time the Packers take the field for their Sept. 11, season-opener against the Minnesota Vikings.
