Packers' Rodgers: 'I want us to take our lumps' in training camp to be ready for regular season

Green Bay Packers MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers is hoping for better days.

With season after season of Rodgers and the offense dominating practices, things have been different early on this training camp. The Packers’ top-notch defense has starred and the team’s new-look offense has sputtered.

Down a few veteran players due to injury, Rodgers admitted the offensive line hardly looked like itself on the first day of camp, resulting in skill players not being able to get open quick enough to make plays.

But through it all, Rodgers remains positive.

“I feel like if we run the ball effectively, which we have a few days where I feel like we’re really gotten after them up front, that’s good for us,” he told SI.com. “But I want us to take our lumps. If we’re taking our lumps this training camp, it’s going to be probably a little easier once we get to the real thing.”

While most of the attention has focused on how the team will seek to fill the void left by the free-agency departure of All-Pro receiver DaVante Adams, Rodgers predicts how the Packers do in the trenches will tell the story. In the end, learning to overcome all the struggles could make all the difference.

“I think it’s important,” he said. “How we deal with adversity is how we reveal the character of our football team. Especially on offense. We need to take our lumps and figure out what kind of football team we’re going to be. So, I love it.”
