The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay (UW-Green Bay) is set to celebrate Hispanic/Latinx Heritage Month from September 15 through October 15, beginning with the "Estamos Aquí" festival this weekend. The outdoor event will feature live music, art, and a car show. Last year, the festival attracted over 8,000 attendees.
Approximately 9% of UW-Green Bay’s student population identifies as Hispanic/Latinx, a figure that has grown steadily over the past decade. Chancellor Michael Alexander expressed enthusiasm for the celebration: “We are excited to honor the rich Hispanic/Latinx culture found in our region and within our community,” he said. “I encourage everyone to attend Estamos Aqui on Saturday and experience this amazing event. Then, come back for one or more of the activities happening this month to learn, celebrate and contribute to the events occurring across the region.”
Campus leaders at UW-Green Bay have collaborated with Organización Latino Americana (OLA), faculty, staff, students, and community members to organize a variety of programs recognizing Hispanic/Latinx history, culture, contributions, and presence in the United States and local community.
Highlighted events include:
- **Estamos Aquí**: Saturday, September 14 from 3 – 10 p.m. at The Weidner. This free outdoor festival will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with live music, art, food, and more.
