Our team is preparing to attend the Battelle Sediments Conference in Tampa, Florida, from January 27-30, 2025. The conference will focus on recent developments and progress in sediment remediation across the United States.
Attendees can visit booth 418 to learn about efforts to restore environmental health and economic vitality to lakes, rivers, ports, and harbors. The event will feature a range of presentations on topics such as lessons learned and strategies for addressing evolving contamination regulations.
One presentation by Erin Hughes on January 28 at 3:55 p.m. will discuss "Expediting Cap Design Through Driver COC Identification at the Portland Harbor Superfund Site." This session will cover methods like dredging and capping sediment to prevent contaminant migration in the River Mile 9 West (RM9W) Project Area of the Portland Harbor Superfund Site.
Steve Lehrke will present twice during the conference. On January 28 at 5:45 p.m., he will discuss "Lower Fox River Statistical Methodology for Long-Term Monitoring Plan Update," focusing on monitoring improvements in water and fish tissue PCB concentrations. On January 29 at 11:20 a.m., Lehrke's presentation titled "RM9W Sediment Interpolation Model Development, Uncertainty Evaluation, and Delineation of Sediment Management Areas" will address data collection for remedial design in Portland's Lower Willamette River.
Tara Van Hoof is scheduled to speak on January 29 at 2:15 p.m. Her presentation, "Assessing the Effectiveness of the Completed Lower Fox River Remedy," will evaluate remedies implemented for PCB contamination discovered in the Lower Fox River during the 1970s.
The conference also includes sessions chaired by Jason Dittman, Steve Garbaciak, and Alex Johnson covering topics such as source identification, remedy effectiveness evaluation, and innovative characterization approaches.
