The HER Program, designed to boost confidence and health among adolescent girls in Oconto, has seen notable success. Initially, eight girls were chosen based on their availability and commitment to participate in weekly activities. These sessions included nutrition education with snacks, workouts, and mindfulness exercises led by Lori Eklund Walsh. Lori's mindfulness and meditation activities were particularly well-received.

After the first cohort's success, a counselor from Oconto High School joined the initiative, leading to an expansion of the program within the school. A second cohort was conducted during school hours to enhance attendance. This six-week program ran on Tuesdays and Thursdays and involved thirteen girls focusing on stress management techniques and promoting positive body image.

In addition to these sessions, participants took part in events throughout 2024. The program extended into a summer school session for younger girls, incorporating creative activities like making calming jars and glitter slime to foster open discussions.

For the 2024-25 school year, the HER Program continues at Oconto High School every Tuesday and Thursday. Attorney Tom Awen, an alumnus from the class of 1981 at Oconto High School, played a pivotal role in its success. This achievement has paved the way for a new initiative called "HIS" (Health Individuality and Strength) Program set to launch in 2025. This upcoming program will focus on improving health and well-being among adolescent boys in Oconto.
