Mike Hansen, interim head coach at Weyauwega-Fremont High School in Weyauwega, Wisconsin, has been named the Green Bay Packers High School Coach of the Week. Hansen took over the football program this season while Head Coach Colton Zimmerman is deployed overseas with the United States National Guard.

Under Hansen’s leadership, the Warhawks have achieved a 3-1 record in the CWC-Large Conference. Hansen’s experience as a long-time assistant coach has helped maintain stability for the team during Zimmerman's absence.

"These kids have been working really really hard…We've seen some amazing physical gains, some real desire to understand the game and just playing hard and how the game is supposed to be played," said Hansen. "That's all on the players – these kids show up and give everything they have and that's really the key to our success. I'm just really proud of our kids."

Hansen has also organized this year’s Salute to Service game, set for Friday, September 19. The event honors all branches of the U.S. military and will pay special tribute to Coach Zimmerman this season. "The kids are all very proud of him and they want to make him proud of them," Hansen said.

A graduate of Weyauwega-Fremont High School in 1996, Hansen played football under Tom Chase before attending Ripon College where he played for Ron Ernst. He began his coaching career at Nekoosa High School before returning to Weyauwega-Fremont as an assistant coach.

Hansen expressed gratitude for receiving the award but emphasized that it reflects collective effort: "This award is a reflection of the work the kids and coaching staff have done," he said. "The players won this and the coaching staff that I am a part of won this. I think it is really cool that they will get this recognition, because they should. This is a tremendous honor and I'm very proud of our boys."

Hansen oversees a roster of 37 players with support from assistants Trevor Wetzel, Ben Billington, Justin Meisenhelder, Don Lederhaus, Rick Bohringer and Max Meyerhofer. In addition to coaching, he teaches science, engineering and technology education at Weyauwega-Fremont.

The Packers’ High School Coach of the Week program recognizes one high school coach each week during football season with a $1,000 donation from both the Green Bay Packers and NFL Foundation to their school’s football program.

Nominations can be submitted by email each Monday morning to Jake Krueger, Football Outreach Coordinator.
