A nonmetallic mining reclamation plan has been submitted for review in Oconto County, according to a notice issued under section 24.700 of the Oconto County Nonmetallic Mining Reclamation Ordinance. The Oconto County Zoning Office has evaluated the plans and determined that they conditionally meet the requirements set by both the county ordinance and Chapter NR135 of the Wisconsin Administrative Code.

The site in question is located on property owned by Corwyn Hodge, with several tax parcels identified in the Town of Lena, Oconto County, Wisconsin. The current zoning for this area is Agricultural with a Quarry Overlay. After mining activities are completed, all slopes and excavated areas are planned to be seeded for use as farmland or grassland, along with the creation of a wildlife pond. Peters Concrete Company is listed as the operator for this nonmetallic mining site.

Residents or business owners within 300 feet of the affected parcels may request a public informational hearing regarding the proposed reclamation plan. Such requests must be made within 30 days from the publication date of this notice. The purpose of any hearing will be to explain and receive comments from those affected about the nature, feasibility, and effects of reclaiming the nonmetallic mine site.

Plans related to this project can be reviewed at the Oconto County Zoning Office during regular business hours at 301 Washington Street, Oconto, WI 54153. Those interested in more information or wishing to discuss details about the reclamation plan are encouraged to contact the Zoning Department at (920) 834-6827.
