The Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame Inc. will install a new bust of Arnie Herber at Green Bay West High School on Friday as part of its Legacy Series. The program aims to honor Packers Hall of Famers in local schools and share their stories with students, visitors, and the community.
Arnie Herber, who graduated from Green Bay West High School in 1928, joined the Packers in 1930. He played for 11 seasons and helped the team win four NFL Championships between 1930 and 1940. Herber is recognized as professional football's first notable long-ball passer and was the first player in league history to surpass 1,000 passing yards in a season. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1966.
The Legacy Series supports the mission of the Packers Hall of Fame Inc., which is to serve as an educational resource by sharing stories about former players with students and the broader community. In previous years, busts honoring Curly Lambeau and Vince Lombardi were installed at Green Bay East High School and Lombardi Middle School, respectively.
The Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame Inc. operates independently from the Green Bay Packers organization. It functions as a nonprofit that manages the Hall as both a historic sports venue and an educational asset for Green Bay and Wisconsin residents. The organization raises funds through events such as its annual Induction Banquet and Golf Classic to preserve team history and expand its archives. Donations of memorabilia may be tax-deductible.
Established in 1967 as a temporary display at Brown County Veterans Memorial Arena, the Hall moved near Lambeau Field in 1976 before relocating to the lower level of Lambeau Field Atrium in 2003. After renovations that began in 2013, it reopened on the main floor of the Atrium across from 1919 Kitchen & Tap in August 2015. More information about tours is available at packershalloffame.com.
