The City of Green Bay Department of Public Works will start its annual fall curbside collection of loose leaves, garden waste, and grass clippings on Monday, October 13, 2025. Residents are instructed to place these materials at the curb in separate piles—leaves and grass together, brush and branches together—and not to mix them. The city will not collect bagged material.
All yard waste must be placed at the curb by November 23, 2025, which is the final deadline for collection. Any yard waste set out after this date will not be collected by the city. After the fall collection period ends, residents are responsible for disposing of their own yard waste or may face a fee if the city collects it.
The Department of Public Works emphasizes that placing yard waste in the road is against city ordinance. Violators may be charged collection fees or fined. Public Works staff will monitor compliance and address violations during this period.
According to city officials, raking leaves into the street can increase stormwater pollution, block drainage structures leading to flooding, pose risks to children playing in leaf piles, and violate stormwater permit requirements.
Residents are also advised not to pile yard waste next to trees, poles, mailboxes, or other obstacles because it can slow down collection crews and potentially damage equipment or property.
Yard Waste Drop-Off Centers operated by the City are open daily from April 1 through the day before Thanksgiving from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., and on weekends only from Thanksgiving Day through March 31 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. These centers close on all holidays. There are two drop-off sites: one at 2530 East Shore Drive on the east side and another at 1470 Hurlbut Street on the west side of Green Bay.
Contractor-generated yard waste is not accepted at either drop-off site or for curbside collection.
For more information about fall loose leaf collection or drop-off center operations, residents can call (920) 448-3535 or visit www.greenbaywi.gov/publicworks.
"Please see Yard Waste Drop-Off Center information below."
"Please note that placing yard waste in the road itself is against City ordinance, and residents who do so will be subject to collection fees and/or fines. Similar to past collection periods, Public Works staff will be recording and addressing violations."
"Residents are reminded that raking leaves into the street (1) increases pollution of storm water; (2) may cause flooding by blocking drainage structures; (3) poses a dangerous attraction to young children; and (4) violates the terms of the City’s stormwater permit obligations."
"Please refrain from piling yard waste next to trees, poles, mailboxes, or other obstructions, as this slows down collection crews and may cause damage to equipment or the obstruction."
