Rep. Tony Wied, who represents Wisconsin's 8th Congressional District, has formally requested that his salary be withheld during the ongoing government shutdown. In a letter addressed to the Chief Administrative Officer of the U.S. House of Representatives, Wied stated:

"I have been informed that despite a lapse of appropriations and current government shutdown, Members of Congress will continue receiving their salary. Please withhold my pay until an appropriations agreement has taken effect."

Wied further commented: "If Democrats want to shut down the government and stop paychecks for federal workers and service members, then Members of Congress shouldn’t get paid either."

Wied was elected to Congress in 2024 after defeating Kristin Lyerly in the general election, securing 57.3% of the vote compared to Lyerly's 42.6%.
