Residents of Green Bay are reminded that September 30 is the last day to purchase 2025 dog and cat licenses. After this date, the City Clerk's office will stop license sales in order to reconcile accounts and prepare tags for the next year.
Renewal letters for current 2025 license holders will be sent out in late November, informing them about their 2026 licenses. New licenses for dogs and cats for 2026 will be available starting December 1, 2025. Pet owners can obtain their 2026 licenses online by visiting www.greenbaywi.gov/1265/Animal-Licenses. The process involves downloading the application, filling it out with pet information, and mailing it with a copy of the current rabies certificate and payment by check.
According to Wisconsin State law and Green Bay Municipal Code Chapter 6, all cats and dogs aged five months or older must have an annual license. A current rabies vaccination certificate from a licensed veterinarian is required; rabies tags alone do not qualify as proof.
The fees for a 2026 pet license are $15 for spayed or neutered animals and $30 for intact animals. Renewals submitted after March 31 will incur a $5 late fee. This late fee does not apply to first-time licenses.
The city emphasizes that licensing pets helps identify them if they become lost, increasing the chances of reuniting them with their families.
The City Clerk's office is located at 100 N. Jefferson Street, Room 106, and is open Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. For further information on pet licensing or to access forms, residents can visit www.greenbaywi.gov/1265/Animal-Licenses.
