Rep. Tony Wied, who won the 2024 general election against Kristin Lyerly with 57.3% of the vote, has used his social media platform to criticize Democratic lawmakers regarding ongoing government funding negotiations.

On October 3, 2025, Wied posted a message questioning recent developments in Congress: "I wonder why? https://t.co/LYfZtT3UyD".

Later that day, he accused Democrats of stalling government operations: "Democrats continue to hold our government hostage for the third day now, solely because they are prioritizing illegal aliens over hardworking Americans. It's well past time for them to put country over party and pass our clean CR. https://t.co/mW86OjTaJB" (October 3, 2025).

In another post on the same date, Wied commented on Senate activity related to healthcare and rural hospitals: "Day 3 of the Democrat Shutdown and the Senate Dems just voted for a FOURTH time to prioritize “free” taxpayer-funded healthcare for illegal aliens while gutting $50 billion from rural hospitals. https://t.co/5wcstI20ke" (October 3, 2025).

Wied’s remarks come amid heightened tensions in Congress over government funding bills and policy priorities. As background, Tony Wied secured his seat in Congress after defeating Kristin Lyerly in the 2024 general election by a margin of nearly fifteen percentage points.
