Rep. Tony Wied, a member of the U.S. House of Representatives who won his seat in 2024 by defeating Kristin Lyerly with 57.3% of the vote, has used his social media platform to comment on recent government funding debates and the issue of healthcare for undocumented immigrants.

On October 1, 2025, Rep. Wied posted: "You didn’t mind 13 CRs under Biden. What changed? Could it be the fact that the OBBB blocked taxpayer-funded healthcare for illegal aliens?" In this tweet, he questioned shifts in attitudes toward continuing resolutions (CRs) and referenced the blocking of taxpayer-funded healthcare for undocumented immigrants.

The following day, on October 2, 2025, Wied wrote: "Democrats: It's a Republican lie that we want to give healthcare to illegal aliens. Also Democrats:" The post implied a contradiction between Democratic statements and actions regarding healthcare policy for undocumented immigrants.

Later on October 2, Wied added: "No matter how many times Democrats try to spin it, they shutdown the government over free, tax-payer funded healthcare for illegal aliens. Whether they admit it or not, that is a fact."

These comments come amid ongoing partisan disputes over federal funding bills and policy provisions related to healthcare access for non-citizens. Continuing resolutions have been used frequently in recent years to avoid government shutdowns while longer-term appropriations are negotiated.

Wied's election victory in 2024 against Kristin Lyerly secured him a seat in Congress with a margin of nearly 15 percentage points.
