The Ukrainian people are receiving humanitarian help thanks to two organizations that are spearheading the collection of funds and items.
The Wisconsin Ukrainians and Ukrainian Cultural School of Green Bay are asking for aid in helping Ukrainians in the midst of conflict with Russia. Russia began an invasion of Ukraine on Feb. 24. As of Tuesday (March 8), 516 civilians in Ukraine were killed, Statista said. There were 908 people wounded.
“The human toll is significant. We understand the needs and intent to be able to pivot and be flexible to address the needs as they evolve,” the Help Ukrainian Families and Soldiers donation page said. “There are many needs. We are the Wisconsin Ukrainian community made up of Ukrainians. Who have family, friends and a direct connection. We are a collaborative group of friends that have formed a coalition and with your support, we can make an incredible difference in the lives of our families, friends and the Ukrainian nation.”
As of today (March 9), $25,290.04 has been raised of a $100,000 goal.
Supplies of approximately 13,600 pounds of donated items such as blankets, boots and medical supplies left Green Bay on Monday (March 7) for Chicago, going to Poland, eventually ending in Ukraine.
“It feels so much better,” truck driver Zahar Lytvyniuk told Fox 11 News. “I was actually able to sleep the last few days better because I was able to see help is on the way."
