The Pinecrest Historical Village is once again the place to be.
After two years of limited programming due to the pandemic, 50-plus-year-old Pinecrest is set to resume welcoming visitors to a full season of activities, beginning this month.
“It’s our job as stewards of the museums to make sure that this is around for the next generation,” Manitowoc County Historical Society executive director Amy Meyer told Fox11News.com of the 60-acre facility that fancies itself as a step back in time.
"A collection of over 30 structures, gathered from throughout Manitowoc County, to tell the story of our immigrants and early settlers about the year 1900," she added.
Meyers said visitors can expect to have even more to enjoy upon their return, adding that they will be able to experience three newly renovated buildings. She added a roof to the Krueger Sawmill means this working relic will continue to cut wood into boards. In addition, the livery stable that housed animals and old equipment is complete.
"There's a true appreciation for those that know how to run it, and have respect for the equipment," said Meyer, adding that the third building is the Town of Meeme Poll House, where six voting booths, including an original pencil used to cast the votes, are stored.
“My interest is history to start with,” said Manitowoc County Historical Society Volunteer Phil Groll, adding that the new attractions benefit all ages. "They can see how things were done without computers, some stuff by hand. Everything is written. It's to show the younger children and stuff like that what things were."
The museum will be open this summer, Wednesday-Sunday, from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m, and is scheduled to wrap up on September 30."
