T-shirts with the image of the Green Bay flag adopted in 1973 will be sold to raise money for the arts programs in Green Bay public schools.

“Thrilled to kick off a fundraising campaign to support arts programming in GB schools,” Green Bay Mayor Eric Genrich recently tweeted. “We’re doing it by selling t-shirts with the imagery of our old city flag, which was designed by a West High alum, the late Theresa Devroy.”

Devroy’s original work now dates back five decades, when then-Mayor Thomas Atkinston held a city-wide contest for students to design a flag for Green Bay, a recent WLUK report said. Devroy won the contest but died just five years later at age 21 after a few years of working in advertising.

In partnership with Devroy’s family, the Milwaukee Public School District is now overseeing the fundraiser, with all proceeds from the event slated to go to the Green Bay Area Public Schools Education Foundation.

The yellow T-shirts with green design are available in sizes S-XL and can be purchased online for $24.99 each through Aug. 25. They will ship on Sept. 2.

To date, the fundraiser has earned over $3,800.
