UW-Green Bay has taken a significant step in supporting sexual assault victims by introducing Wisconsin’s first Project Beloved soft interview room on campus. The soft interview room, located in the Police Department on the Green Bay campus, aims to provide a safe and comfortable space for survivors to share their stories with officers without impeding the legal process if they choose to press charges. This victim-centered approach, sponsored by Project Beloved, aims to empower survivors and change the conversation about sexual assault.
In line with raising awareness, tomorrow, April 24, 2024, UW-Green Bay's Healthy Choices Taskforce and Student Engagement Center are encouraging all students and staff to participate in Denim Day by wearing denim. Denim Day is a global movement that uses clothing as a visual symbol to challenge misconceptions surrounding sexual violence. This event marks the culmination of a month-long awareness campaign at UW-Green Bay campuses, which included the "What Were They Wearing: Survivor Art Installation" at each campus to combat victim-blaming associated with sexual assault.
The university emphasizes that the support for sexual assault victims extends beyond the month of April. Those in need of assistance or interested in using the Project Beloved soft interview room can contact UW-Green Bay at 920-465-2300 at any time. Additionally, resources such as the UW-Green Bay's Sexual Assault and Personal Safety page, University Police, and the National Sexual Assault Hotline (800.656.HOPE) are available for those seeking help.
UW-Green Bay remains committed to providing a supportive environment for survivors and promoting awareness about sexual violence throughout the year. The university's initiative reflects its dedication to addressing important social issues and fostering a safe community for all students and staff.
