The Green Bay Department of Public Works (DPW) is set to commence its curbside yard and garden waste collection starting Monday, October 14, 2024. Residents are being reminded that all yard waste must be placed on the terrace rather than in the street. This requirement aligns with compliance obligations under Green Bay's storm sewer permit issued by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR). Failure to adhere to these rules can lead to penalties for the City, including regulatory fines.

For the past three years, DPW has sent educational notices to property owners who improperly disposed of yard waste in the street. This fall, without prior notice or warning, DPW will begin invoicing residents if their yard waste is found in the street. Conversely, there will be no charge for collections when waste is correctly placed on the terrace.

DPW encourages residents not to pile yard waste in the street despite understanding that this may not be a popular measure. The department prefers not to issue invoices but will do so for violations of this rule.

Residents are also reminded that raking leaves into the street contributes to increased stormwater pollution, clogs stormwater inlets, can attract children playing in unsafe areas, and breaches terms of the City's storm sewer permit.

The public is urged to follow these guidelines to maintain cleanliness and ensure compliance with Green Bay's storm sewer regulations.

Additionally, City of Green Bay yard waste centers remain open daily from 6 a.m. until 8 p.m., excluding holidays, until Thanksgiving Day at two locations: 2530 East Shore Drive (east) and 1470 Hurlbut Street (west), for those who prefer self-hauling their yard waste.
