Mark Kibler, the head coach of Delavan-Darien High School's football team, has been named the Green Bay Packers High School Coach of the Week. This recognition comes in his first year as head coach, during which he led the Comets to their first playoff victory since 2016. The team has matched its total wins from the past six seasons in this single season alone.

Kibler credits much of the team's success to its senior players and coaching staff, many of whom are alumni of Delavan-Darien High School. "They've held the entire program accountable," Kibler said about his seniors. He also emphasized that his staff brings a sense of community to the program because they care deeply about Comet football.

The team is motivated by their mantra 'burn the ship,' inspired by a historical tale where explorers burned their ships upon reaching new land to ensure there was no turning back. "Anytime we hit adversity or something happens, everyone shouts, 'burn the ship!'" explained Kibler.

Community involvement is also a priority for Kibler. The team has participated in local events and fundraisers and plans more activities in the offseason. "I feel like some of the success that is happening is because of the community being involved," Kibler noted.

Kibler, who grew up in Delavan and graduated from Delavan-Darien High School in 2006, began coaching there as a JV assistant in 2012. After various roles including offensive coordinator at Clinton High School, he took a break to focus on family before returning as head coach this season.

Expressing gratitude for receiving the award, Kibler acknowledged his coaching staff and community support as key contributors to their achievements. "This isn't an award for just me; this is an award for all of us," he stated.

The Green Bay Packers' Coach of the Week program will recognize outstanding high school coaches throughout the 2024 football season. Winners receive a $1,000 donation to their school's football program among other rewards.
