A new retail venture is set to open in downtown Oconto. Blackbird Boutique, owned by Amanda Derry, will officially welcome customers on March 14, 2025. The boutique offers a selection of modern clothing, accessories, and unique gift items that often support charitable causes.
Amanda Derry's path to owning a boutique began nearly ten years ago when she assisted Lisa, the former owner. “When Lisa told me she was opening this store, I instantly told her to let me know if she ever needed help," said Amanda. She expressed that working there was never just a job but became a dream to own such a store herself.
The name Blackbird Boutique holds personal significance for Amanda. Her mother passed away from cancer in 2012 and had a fondness for birds. "My logo also features four birds, representing my four children," Amanda noted.
The shop maintains some of the original styles introduced by Lisa while adding new items that contribute to various nonprofit organizations. “I’m keeping some of Lisa’s original styles while adding new items,” Amanda explained. Items like socks support nonprofits such as St. Jude’s and clean water initiatives, and some coffee mugs aid cancer research.
Customer feedback plays an essential role in the boutique's inventory decisions. “I’ll also be taking customer feedback on new items they’d like to see in the store,” Amanda mentioned.
Blackbird Boutique aims to create more than just a shopping experience; it seeks to foster joy and community engagement through its offerings. Long-term plans include online ordering and curated gift baskets for special occasions with varied pricing options.
The Oconto Area Chamber of Commerce supports the opening of Blackbird Boutique enthusiastically. Chamber President Samantha Routheau stated: “Oconto is lucky to have passionate entrepreneurs like Amanda.”
Residents are encouraged to visit Blackbird Boutique starting March 14th for apparel or meaningful gifts supporting larger causes.
