The Green Bay Metro Fire Department is reminding residents of the upcoming start of Daylight Savings Time on Sunday, March 9th at 2:00 AM. This occasion serves as an opportune moment to ensure that smoke alarms are functioning properly and equipped with fresh batteries.
Data from the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) indicates that approximately three out of five fire-related deaths occur in homes lacking adequate smoke alarms or where devices are nonfunctional. With the anticipated influx of visitors for the upcoming Draft, there is a heightened focus on enhancing safety for both local residents and guests.
In response, the Green Bay Metro Fire Department has launched "Operation Beep Beep," a safety initiative aimed at ensuring all homes in Green Bay have operational smoke alarms. This effort is supported by a FEMA grant totaling $29,880, which will allow the department to provide and install smoke alarms free of charge to residents in Green Bay as well as those in the Villages of Allouez and Bellevue.
Residents interested in participating in "Operation Beep Beep" can contact the smoke alarm hotline at 1-920-448-3303 or visit https://www.greenbaywi.gov/1519/Free-Smoke-Alarms for more information on free installation services.
