Curative Connections opened Yesteryear Village in 2024, aiming to address the growing number of individuals living with memory loss. Projections indicate a 105% increase in this population by 2040. The village offers an environment reminiscent of participants' younger years, allowing them to engage in interactive experiences within a safe and familiar setting. Spaces such as a diner, auto garage, passenger train car, back porch, village square, barbershop, and beauty salon are featured.
The initiative is designed to foster self-direction and promote social interaction while reducing anxiety, confusion, and agitation often experienced by people with dementia. Eight years of research informed the planning of this project.
Community support plays a vital role in Curative Connections' operations. Donations help eliminate financial barriers for accessing services. Volunteers contribute significantly by providing over 200 rides daily through the specialized transportation department and participating in various events throughout the year. The organization encourages community members to learn about its mission and spread awareness to reach more individuals who could benefit from its services.
